Betta Albimarginata (Kottlelat & Ng 1994)

Betta Albimarginata

Bought 28 Feb2008
This is one of the first wild betta that I bred back in 2003. This fish at that time was $170 for a pair! I have now a pair bought from our local fish shop. Looking at the fish, I do not think it is wild caught. Possibly tank bred as I ask the LFS owner. Well price at half of what I use to buy, I think it is still a bargain. Will someday hope to catch a pair of wild caught in my net.

Condition both fishes well before putting them for the spawning process. The female at purchase was much smaller than the male. Now she is as long as the male. This morning, while feeding, the pair was not around. Day before, just replace the pot for a moss covered coconut shell hiding place. Surpsingly, found the pair in the new cave. The female was spitting the eggs for the male to catch. One of the first few eggs that were passed to the male were smaller and transparent eggs. Never observed this before. Subsequently, the other eggs that were passed to the male were bigger and the eggs were snow white. Managed to take a few photos before the show was over. As this is the first spawning, I am not surprised if the male swallowed the eggs. I have conditioned both fishes well and do hope that the effort pays off. Expecting the fries 12 days later
